Rizky Ridho Joins Indonesian Football Legends with 61 Caps After ASEAN Cup Triumph

Rizky Ridho has strengthened his reputation as one of Indonesia’s most dependable defenders after helping the national team win the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. The 24-year-old Persija Jakarta captain has now made 61 appearances for the senior national team, placing him among the most capped players in Indonesian football history. His latest achievement highlights his growing importance to the Garuda squad and his potential to climb even higher in the rankings.
Ridho made his senior international debut against Oman on May 29, 2021, after developing through Persebaya Surabaya’s youth system. Since then, he has established himself as a regular presence in Indonesia’s defence, maintaining his place despite several changes in national team management. His continued involvement under John Herdman further demonstrates the trust he has earned through his performances and consistency.
Following Indonesia’s ASEAN Cup triumph, Ridho reached 61 international appearances, matching the records of former national team stars Ponaryo Astaman and Soetjipto Soentoro. Ponaryo represented Indonesia between 2003 and 2013, while Soetjipto played for the national side from 1965 to 1970. Joining these respected figures marks a significant milestone for Ridho, particularly given his relatively young age and the number of international competitions still ahead of him.
Ridho’s next target could be Firman Utina, who recorded 66 appearances for Indonesia. With a difference of just five matches, the young defender has a realistic opportunity to surpass the former midfielder through upcoming international fixtures. The 2027 AFC Asian Cup could provide another important stage for Ridho to increase his tally and help Indonesia compete against stronger opponents across Asia.
Indonesia’s all-time appearance rankings remain led by Abdul Kadir with 111 caps, followed by Iswadi Idris with 97 and Kainun Waskito with 87. Jacob Sihasale sits on 70 appearances, while Firman Utina has 66. Ridho’s total of 61 places him alongside Ponaryo Astaman and Soetjipto Soentoro, underlining how close he is to entering the next tier of the rankings. With his career still developing, Ridho has plenty of time to build on his achievements and establish himself among Indonesia’s most celebrated international players.
